All of the shellacs are 3 coats of 2# cuts. The BLO and Watco were flooded on, then wiped off after letting sit for 15 minutes or so. The Waterlox and Sherwin Williams Fast Dry are both 3 coats. ![]() ![]() ![]() Jeff Jewitt has a nice shellac test picture (with various colors of shellac on various woods) on his Homestead site on the shellac page. Here are my first two projects using shellac. The first picture is a mirror made out of Chokecherry. Chokecherry is a little darker and a lot denser than Cherry. The looks are very similar though. I put a coat of BLO slightly thinned with mineral spirits and wiped it off after 15 minutes. After giving it several days to dry, I put on 3 coats of 2# orange shellac. I smoothed it out using steel wool and mineral oil. ![]() This is a Walnut plant stand that is a Christmas gift for my mother-in-law. Same finishing schedule as above... I added a couple of coats of Waterlox just on the Top frame for water protection. ![]() Original Link to forum... first shellac project & testing boards (pics) Do you like this website?
